Staff from Barratt Homes visited a different building site in Aylesham this week to find out how their money is helping to
create a community hub for the future.
The housebuilder, which is building new homes at its Aylesham Village development nearby, is supporting a project to bring a new tearoom to the village. The mission is being driven by local volunteers, who have raised £48,000 in just over two years and their hard work has paid off, with construction of the new tearoom well underway.
Set behind the parish council offices in Milner Crescent, the footings were laid last month and the building could be complete and serving food and drink by Christmas.
Pam Reardon from Barratt Homes’ Kent said: “It’s fantastic to see how quickly the new tearoom is going up. The fact that the volunteers managed to raise such a huge amount towards its construction in just over two years is testament to the community spirit here in Aylesham. We are very proud to support such a successful and worthy project and hope the new tearoom brings enjoyment to everyone who uses it.”
Mandy Mills, lead volunteer for the project, added: “The pop up tearoom and shop received great support from the village and beyond but sadly we can only run them twice a week, which is why we’re excited to soon have a permanent base. The Barratt Homes donation will go towards our build costs and will enable the village a permanent place where people can meet and buy food and refreshments at reasonable prices.”
The new tea room has been well supported by a number of other local businesses, with Fineview Landscapes, Ovendens and Harwood Building Control all among those lending their skills to the construction project
